Overview
About the role:
The Environment & Real Estate Services Manager is responsible for providing expertise and support to the business in the areas of air, water, waste, and land management. This includes ensuring the implementation and on-going improvement of environmental performance within the business, consistent with the corporate priorities and policies as well as compliance to relevant regulation. This position provides functional and technical support for effective management of land and leasehold assets and environmental training and program expertise. The manager performs audits and responds to inquiries and inspections from local, state, and federal agencies.
Responsibilities
What you'll be doing:
Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas
Advise operations on environmental regulatory requirements and provide technical support as needed
Keeps current and familiar with the operating status of assigned sites anticipating and resolving potential or actual environmental compliance issues
Keep current with local, state, and federal environmental legal requirements and monitor developments and changes
Support Operations in implementing and maintaining an ISO14001-consistent Environmental Management System
Provide day to day presence in the field and understand local issues
Deliver environmental training programs and ensure adequate records are maintained
Ensure storm water inspections and related field work is completed for assigned areas
Actively participate in industry related organizations to keep abreast of standards and developing issues
Responsible for conducting audits and evaluations of compliance with regulatory and industry standards
Responsible for performing audits of facilities for conformance with company policies and procedures and making recommendations to Operations
Participate in Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), state agencies, and local government inspections and coordinate the preparation of responses
Assist Operations in identifying and managing capital projects for site environmental upgrades
Participate in projects with cross functional teams to address business opportunities or challenges and provide environmental and land expertise
Advise and support on land management practices and processes including land acquisition, land divestment, permitting and zoning
Work with landowners and tenants to effectively manage land and leasehold assets
Support land reclamation and restoration budgeting and project implementation for assigned sites
Participate in biodiversity program planning and implementation for assigned sites
Oversee consultant work in accordance with the Land and Environment department project authorizations
Prepare air permit applications, various plans and regulatory compliance
Develop and implement spill prevention and control plans and stormwater pollution prevention plans
Respond and provide oversight for emergency response actions that arise in relation to environmental or land incidents
Other duties as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS
Works closely with Legal, Finance, Environment, Operations and others
Works closely with external service providers on technical, government and legal matters
Interacts with senior management of the Business Unit on various issues or situations
Qualifications
We're looking for:
Education: Bachelor’s/Undergraduate Degree
Additional Education Preferred: Master’s/Graduate Degree
Field of Study Preferred: Environmental Engineering or related science and technical discipline
Required Work Experience: 7 years related experience
Required Training/Certifications: Formal training in leadership, team building, continuous improvements and related fields
Licenses Preferred: Professional Engineering License a plus
Required Computer and Software Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; Land Information System, ENVOY, GIS, CAD, SAP
Travel Requirements: 50% within the regional business
Additional Requirements:

Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment (“PPE”), including but not limited to respirators.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must demonstrate ability to multi-task and manage conflicting priorities
Strong problem solving skills, interpreting rules, laws, and agreements
Demonstrated computer proficiency
Highly organized self-starter with the ability to successfully manage multiple simultaneous projects and priorities with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to lead and work in a cross disciplinary team environment
In-depth understanding of applicable government regulations and pertinent legislation
Proven ability to carry out long and short term planning
Able to travel to external locations and attend public meetings which may occur after business hours
Comfort and solid familiarity with public relations, public presentations, and communications with group of community members
